Angels and Insects

This is a movie that is completely messed up. However, I do appreciate the undermeaning thoughts put into this movie. I believe that the directors and the writers of the movie were trying to suggest that the natural sciences are in a way able to change how we as humans behave. Through the ant colonies and just how the behavior of the ants reflects the behavior of the characters as a whole.

The characters who were maids and those who were not of the elite class always wore the color black and the characters who were of the elite class wore red. The clothing colors are colors that are representative of the ant colonies that Williams and Maddie were drawning observations and writing about. The colors that they wear are represented in their ablitity to move and be seen within society.

The lower class, those in the dark and black clothing are able to move freely, able to go to the kitchen, the horse stables, the private rooms, everywhere. Unlike those who wear the red colored clothing, they are only seen in the areas where they need to go, such as the stables, outside, and in their bedrooms.

Also,
Something fun that I did pick up on in class was the fact that Professor Lane mentioned that Eugenics, which is the breding to make different variations, such as in dogs. They're all dogs, but there are different types of dogs and I thought it was funny how Eugenia's name and Eugenics are so similar in language, plus the possible parrelle between how Eugenia was making a different bred within the Adamson family.

week 2

So the last class, we had a discuss on the ethics on animals and taking them to the vet, and all sorts of other things. While in discussion, a few of my classmates talked about how many had to "out down there dogs" instead of trying to "fix" their pets and extend their pet's life. But the thoughts of why did it have to be life or death right away?

Why was it that the owner had the right to "put the dog down"? Who said that they had the right to take the pet's life away just because they weren't doing well anymore? The reason why this thought came about was because my friends just recently lost their dog. Their dog, I believe had medical conditions but because it was costly and because it wouldn't do much for their dog, decided not to take on those procedures. But instead of "putting the dog down" they just kept it for it's remaining time and later died naturally.

In pertaining to ethics, it is ethical to have the right to take an animals life away? Most of the time, when a human is not in a healthy condition, we leave in hospitalized for a long time unless they are no longer conscious or are at near death. So what makes it okay for us to believe that putting a dog down is the right thing to do?

week 1

I'm not so sure what we were suppose to blog about for the first week of class. But I since we discussed animals and how we as humans project our ideas of cuteness upon them, I suppose I should start from there.

I never really thought about why or how I perceive animals to be cute. I just thought they were cute you know? I didn't even recognize that the only reason why they were cute is because of us! Putting humanistic characters on them...

But then at the same time, when looking at animals I do think that they are beautiful creatures! I don't think it's wrong to say that they are cute or beautiful. I think to an extent they are just because they are. I don't think that it's only because of the perceptions of what we believe is cute.

I'm not sure if what I'm saying is making any sense. But all I'm saying is that animals are beautiful no matter...well most of them..lol.
